ID Card and Physical Security

The HKU campus ID card is the primary authentication tool used by students and staff to open physical access points on campus, use cafeteria and canteen services, and benefit from institutional services.

1. Card Types

2. Card Issuance Process

Student Card

  1. After final enrollment is completed, confirm the card application form via OBS.
  2. Upload your biometric photo to OBS.
  3. Cards are printed in batches and delivered through the Student Affairs Office.
  4. Present your national ID document when collecting the card.

Staff Card

  1. Human Resources collects your photo and personal details at the start of your employment.
  2. Card printing is completed within 5 business days.
  3. Access permissions are automatically activated when the card is collected.

3. Access Zones

  • General areas: Entry gates, library, cafeteria – open to all HKU cards.
  • Departmental areas: Office corridors of academic departments.
  • Laboratories: Open to those with course enrollment or authorized duty.
  • Server room and data center: Open only to authorized IT personnel; access is logged in accordance with ISO 27001.
  • Car park: For staff with car park authorization on their card.
Warning: Giving your card to someone else, “tailgating” (letting another person in with your card), or bypassing security turnstiles is a disciplinary violation.

4. Lost / Stolen Card

  1. As soon as you realize your card is lost, immediately open a “Card Loss / Theft” request at desk.hku.edu.tr.
  2. The card is immediately deactivated and access is blocked.
  3. A printing fee is charged for a new card.
  4. The new card is printed within 3-5 business days.
